Gibson’s Learn & Master Guitar with Steve Krenz

If you’re on the lookout for easy guitar lesson instruction, may I suggest Gibson’s Learn & Master Guitar with instructor Steve Krenz? Seriously, this is the absolute best series of lessons that I’ve ever stumbled across, and I’ve tried my fair share.
Guitar Learning SystemYou see, I’m always looking to improve my playing. I’m afraid I’m a bit paranoid about it actually because I taught myself while I was in college. I was head over heels for this one guy. He was an awesome blues guitarist. Anyway, I wanted a reason to talk to him. I wanted to impress him. So I taught myself guitar from a beginner’s book that I picked up at a music store and proceeded to learn as best I could.

That was years ago, and I’ve never regretted learning to play. But I’m always on the lookout for a way to improve my skills. So when I heard about Gibson’s Learn & Master Guitar and read the rave reviews I figured it was worth a shot! And you know what? I don’t regret it.

Don’t worry; I’m not trying to sell you anything. I just want to share my impressions of the course and how it helped me.

Right out of the box I felt like I was really getting my money’s worth. Unlike some courses that have one or maybe two DVDs that claim to be able to teach you everything you need to know, the Gibson course had twenty of them! That’s more than 40 hours worth of easy guitar lesson instruction; and we’re not talking fly by night lessons. These are quality instructional videos packed full of useful tips and techniques that I would have died for all those years ago when I was learning on my own.

While the course is designed for beginners (and I’m talking REAL beginners here) there is so much information packed into the course for non-beginners, too! Even though I’ve been playing for years, I picked up so much information from these lessons that I am satisfied that it was money well-spent. Keep in mind, however, that for an intermediate player the lessons may seem a little slow and basic. You’ll learn lots, but you might find a little of it to be repetitious.

In addition to the instructional DVDs there are also 5 Jam along CDs so that you can practice playing with other instruments. Plus there’s a lesson book that is over 100 pages long! Did I mention the website?

That’s right, in addition to the:
- 20 DVDs chock full of easy guitar lesson instruction
- 5 Jam Along CDs
- 100-page instruction book
- access to online support community

There is also a website that you can go to that gives you access to a whole other easy guitar lesson book. Plus, there’s a student support forum/community website that allows you to create a profile page where you can post recordings and track your learning progress. And, even get feedback from other guitarists – even from Steve himself. As amazing as it may seem, Steve Krenz is a regular on the website and personally answers many students’ questions.

Below is a sample lesson for you to check-out.

Pitfalls of this Guitar Lesson

Now that I’ve raved about the good points of the program, I have to point out that there are a few things I really didn’t like about it. First off, there aren’t many lessons for the price. While the lessons themselves are excellent (truly outstanding quality lessons) when you compare it to a website like Guitar Tricks where you get over 5,000 lessons, it seems a little stingy. Especially when you consider that you have to make a large up-front investment.

Also, not everyone responds the same way to the same teacher. While I absolutely love Steve Krenz, with the Learn and Master Guitar Program, he is the only instructor available in this program. Other programs have more instructors available. Both JamPlay and Guitar Tricks have 45 teachers each, and even Jamorama has seven. This means that if you don’t ‘hit it off’ with one teacher, there are others that you might be able to relate to.

In short, I would have to say that this is probably one of the most awesome guitar courses for beginning guitarists available, and that it certainly has top quality instructional videos. But you’d better be very sure that Steve Krenz is who you want to learn from before laying out the investment or you might find yourself disappointed.
