Fender Acoustic Guitars: CD-60 Dreadnought

by Guitar Guru
(play-acoustic-guitar.com)

”Cheap Guitar with Hard Shell Case”

The Fender CD-60 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar has the look and feel of a much more expensive guitar, but at a fraction of the price.

Just ~$199, the CD-60 sports a laminated spruce top and mahogany back and sides that give it a nice warm tone. It even comes with a hard-shell case so that you can protect your purchase from accidental dents and scratches.

Built on a dreadnought body, the CD-60 is a large guitar, with the broad shoulders and deep body that dreadnoughts are known for. You can compare it to the Jasmine by Takamine S35Q Quilted maple Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar for body size and manageability. But the Jasmine Takamine S35Q (being made of maple) has, overall, a brighter tone and its solid spruce top (in comparison to the Fender CD-60 laminated spruce top) gives the Jasmine Takamine S35Q a better projection and sustain.

At just $179, the Takamine is also less expensive than the Fender. But if the Fender name and hard shell case are what you are looking for, the Fender CD-60 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar can give you the Fender Quality at just a fraction of the price of other top-name acoustic guitars.

Cheap Fender Guitar
by: Graham (Edmonton Ab Canada)

This Fender is a really expensive campfire guitar. Sure, it comes with a case. Hmmmph! That's a joke. A gig bag would suffice.

It has a relatively heavy urethane finish which is not only damned near bullet-proof, but which further compromises the already weak sustain for which laminates are known. Far better choices are out there, even at this price-point. The S35Q is a suberb example. Buy the S35Q and put the change towards a case. The Takamine merits the expenditure.... The CD60 does not.

The DG60 shares this thick finish as well as a laminate top. In each instance, the competition has more to offer for the dollar. The Fender name is important on Electric Guitars....(Leo Fender is responsible for the Telecaster and Stratocaster axes...).but they're hopelessly outclassed by almost everyone when it comes to acoustics.
