Fender Acoustic Guitars: DG-8S Value Pack

by Guitar Guru
(play-acoustic-guitar.com)

“Solid Top Beginner Guitar for a Song”

The Fender DG-8S Acoustic Guitar Value Pack includes a number of features designed for the guitarist who is just starting out and at the affordable price of just $199.

First off, you get a Fender dreadnought guitar with a solid spruce top. It resonates nicely due to its large body, yet the neck is small which fits small hands nicely. This is a good acoustic guitar for beginners since the solid top gives it a nice warm sound and a projection that you don’t find in guitars with laminated tops. But beginning guitarists will find more here than just a guitar.

The Fender DG-8S also comes with a chromatic tuner so that you can keep your guitar in tune, extra strings in case one of yours snaps, a string winder, shoulder strap, a selection of picks and even a DVD that tells you how to get started. Note that this guitar is made in China, and the factory set-up is inconsistent and may need some adjusting.

You’ll enjoy learning how to play on this guitar, though you may find that the tone of the guitar looses a bit of punch if you don’t tune it regularly. In fact, it sometimes gets rather mushy in tone, especially with fingerstyle playing. But if you like learning with a pick, and then you are in luck!

You can compare the Fender DG-8S with the Epiphone AJ-220ST Solid Top Acoustic Guitar Pack at the same price. While the Epiphone AJ-220ST pack costs the same as the Fender DG-8S, it doesn’t come with an instructional DVD. But it does tend to hold its tune a bit better and has a built-in tuner that comes in very handy. It also has a slightly richer tone. All in all, the Fender DG-8S Acoustic Guitar Value pack is a choice that will definitely serve the beginning guitarist well.
