Made by Fender, the Squier MA-1 ¾ Size Steel-String Acoustic Guitar is a great choice of beginner acoustic guitars. Designed for durability, the Squier MA-1 can stand up to abuse which, when combined with its price (just ~$109) makes it a good choice as a kids acoustic guitar. The overall smaller size of the MA-1 also means that it is a great little travel guitar to take with you on the road.

While the size is great for small hands, it won’t take long for the beginning guitarist to lose interest in the Squier MA-1 for a notable reason: it has a thin tone that can get rather annoying, especially once you have compared it to other more substantial guitars.

The thinness of tone is not due to the size, for the Taylor Baby Taylor 3/4 Size is the same size of guitar, but it has a much more substantial tone partially due its solid top. And while the Taylor, at $299 it is decidedly more expensive than the Squier MA-1, it would prevent you having to make the upgrade so soon after the initial purchase. But if you are looking for a guitar, this model will serve your student’s purposes without making a financial commitment to a more expensive model.
