The Squire by Fender SA-100 Upgrade Acoustic Guitar Pack is one of those guitar packages designed for beginning guitarists. It comes complete with a Squier by Fender dreadnought acoustic guitar, an electronic tuner, picks and even a gig bag, all for just $99.

The Squier by Fender guitar sounds surprisingly good considering that it has a laminated spruce top as well as laminated agathis back and sides. But the rounded tone of the guitar begins to pale when it becomes clear that it loses its pitch relatively quickly (you’ll be using that electronic tuner a lot!). And while it handles fingerstyle playing relatively well, too much picking will send it out of tune even faster.

Built on a dreadnought body, the Squier has broad shoulders and a deep body that can make it a bit difficult for the beginning guitarist to handle. But its big sound due to its classic dreadnought feature combined with the very affordable price turns it into a popular guitar for beginners.

At just $100 more, the Yamaha GigMaker gives the beginning guitarist the added stability of a solid top guitar with slightly better resonance and a more rounded tone as well as an instructional DVD. But for the price the Squire by Fender SA-100 Upgrade Acoustic Guitar Pack is a very good deal indeed.
