An LXM Little Martin is an awesome choice for the beginning guitarist. Its small, modified Martin body has a high pressure laminate top with Sitka spruce bracing which combine to give this little number a surprisingly rich sound that one would not expect given the price.

While the reduced 23” scale length of the Martin LXM is perfect for beginning guitarists or those who are smaller framed, the tone quality will not equal the higher quality Martins. In fact, when using a pick, this little travel guitar can actually sound boxy, with a tendency of the high notes to go tinny. But if you are just learning guitar or prefer fingerstyle play, then the LXM will suffice. And the price will sound even more amazing.

The Martin LXM has a high pressure laminate (HPL) top which holds up well to changes in humidity when traveling. Compare this to the Martin LX1 which has a solid wood top that resonates better than a laminate top, yet the LX1's solid top is not as tolerant to humidity changes and travel-related knocks.

The term “cheap acoustic guitars” is not one you would normally hear applied to a Martin. But the Martin LXM Little Martin is only $279 (including the heavily padded gig bag), an astoundingly low price to pay for the quality of a Martin.
