”The Strong Solid Type”

Strong, solid, but definitely not silent, the Maritime SWS Mini Jumbo High Gloss Acoustic Guitar is one for the record books. Crafted with a solid mahogany body and a solid spruce top, this gorgeous instrument produces a strong sound that will blow you away and a clarity of tone that will leave you amazed.

Curvaceous would be a good word to describe the shape of the SWS Mini Jumbo. You find yourself cuddling up to this lovely lady as she sits very well on your lap and her shallow body allows you to hold her very close. But don’t let her delicate shape deceive you. This piece has a strong midrange response that makes it an excellent guitar for performances, even recording studios.

Its wide string spacing gives the finger style player more room on the fretboard, a feature usually only found on custom instruments. The high-gloss finish on the body is protective without being stifling and is light enough to allow the SWS Mini Jumbo to age gracefully, getting better the longer you play it. The satin finish on the neck helps avoid sticking to the instrument while playing.

And speaking of sound, the clarity of this piece’s notes extend to each and every fret and very nearly chimes on harmonics; sounding in fact very much like a Taylor guitar in sound, but considerably less expensive at <$700.

One minor downfall would have to be the turning pegs, they are a bit on the small side. But frankly, it is a flaw that can be overlooked given the quality of craftsmanship and the solid sound that will leave you with your jaw open.

Humidity
by: Graham

These solid wood instruments need humidity if they are to maintain their integrity. That is, if the air gets too dry, the guitar can come apart. Any solid wood stringed instrument is the same. Even those with laminate back and sides, but a solid TOP, can be adversely affected by the dry. See your retailer, if in doubt. There are devices which can offset this problem. They're not too expensive and worth EVERY PENNY. Get one!!

Maritime SWS Minijumbo HG
by: Graham of Edmonton Ab Canada

Further to my earlier comments concerning this instrument, I would add that I have, since acquiring it, decided that it's BETTER than I originally thought.

This very comfortable guitar lacks a few things. There's no fancy purfling. There's no binding around the neck. There's no ritzy abalone inlay ANYWHERE. And one REALLY BIG THING ...there was no outrageous price-tag!!

Of all the things missing from this absolutely BEAUTIFUL guitar, this has to be among the most important. The quality of the SOLID SPRUCE TOP, and SOLID MAHOGANY BACK AND SIDES combined with the beauty of the woods themselves, make for an extremely attractive piece....so much so, in fact, that all the things listed above as 'lacking' seem superfluous when seen on other instruments. Like they're trying to make up for something by adding 'glitz'. This axe is so pretty as it sits...it requires none of those things. Just like a woman who is so good-looking that she needs no make-up! And her voice??? Clear and pure

...Before you buy an acoustic guitar, do yourself a favour...Check out the Seagull Minijumbo....You could spend more....you could get a more decorative axe...but if you're a finger-picker, I don't think you'll find a nicer SOUNDING instrument at anywhere near the Seagull's price-point...if you can find one at all! And they're MADE IN CANADA, EH!!

Seagull Maritime SWS Minijumbo HG
by: Graham of Edmonton Ab Canada

I finally found an acoustic guitar which compares favourably to my 'Gull' in tone, playability and appearance. The problem is that it costs four times as much as the Seagull. Sorry, but in this instance the Gull is the hands-down winner.

You can pay more....it's YOUR money...but why would anyone want to do THAT? Over-the-top purfling and fancy abalone inlays do NOT make an instrument SOUND any better...And music is listened to, not LOOKED AT!

In my somewhat less than humble opinion, these high-priced axes have only ONE advantage: Snob Value. In a 'curtain test', I'd put my minijumbo up against almost any other straight acoustic at any price. In the <$1,000 price range, the Gull is probably without peer.
