Takamine Guitars: Concert Classic 132S

by Guitar Guru

"Exception to the Rule"

Any serious guitarist knows that when purchasing a guitar there is one general rule of thumb; you get what you pay for. The Takamine Concert Classic 132S is, without doubt, the exception to that rule.

The warm, resonant tone of this lovely creature can be attributed to its solid cedar top as well as its rosewood back and sides, giving it concert quality at a fraction of the price of other guitar’s in its class. Selling at less than $1,000, the C-132S has the quality of guitars by other manufactures that sell for three times its price. And it looks as good as it sounds, with a 3-color wood mosaic rosette that lends the C132-S a sophisticated elegance that is beautiful on-stage. Plus, the Takamine hardshell case included will serve you and your C-132S well.

Keep in mind that, in spite of the beauty of this piece and its richness of tone, it is at its heart, a classical guitar that lends itself best to fingerstyle playing. Not only does picking make the C-132S sound boxy, but picks do a considerable amount of damage to the beautiful body of this Takamine Classic. So if picking is your forte, you may want to consider a more rugged model, or at least invest in having a pick guard installed.

One of the best things about this model is that, unlike some guitars, the Takamine C-132S gets better with use and age. The more you play it and longer you own it, the more beautiful the wood becomes and sound improves. So if you’ve always adhered by the “you get what you pay for” rule and wish to own the exception to it, look into purchasing a C-132S. You’ll be glad you did!
