Taylor Acoustic Guitars: GA4 Grand Auditorium

by Guitar Guru
(play-acoustic-guitar.com)

”Sound this Rich Should be Illegal”

There’s just something about the Taylor GA4 Grand Auditorium that can’t be denied. While it’s true that Taylor makes some of the best acoustic guitars available, with the GA4 they’ve really outdone themselves.

Maybe it’s the GA4’s looks, for an exotic Ovangkol body and solid Sitka spruce top with their soft satin gloss, but more likely it’s the tone that these woods, combined with the smooth curves of Taylor’s modified dreadnought produce that blow you away. Regardless of why you get hooked, it’s a given that once you start playing the GA4, you’re not going to want to stop.

The thing is, this lovely lady may have those seductive curves, but there is nothing delicate about her tone. The GA4 produces a solid, meaty tone, especially in the mid-ranges. While its curves cut down on the boxy sound that many dreadnoughts can develop in the lower ranges, it doesn’t skimp on the higher notes either, but continues to produce rich, clear sounds in every range. Overall you’re looking at a full-bodied tone that fills your head with sound whenever you play it.

And speaking of playing, it’s a joy to handle! While it’s depth of body and width of shoulders may make it a little difficult to handle for younger players or for those with a slighter body structure, for those who can handle the reach, this guitar’s action is sublime! It’s so easy to play, and adapts itself so well to any playing style or technique that it gives the impression that you’re not really working at all. Not only that, the action on this piece is so smooth that it feels like it should be illegal. Luckily it is a legitimate steal at only $1,399, and will give its owner years of quality service.
