”Solid Acoustic Guitar for Beginners”

The Washburn WD10S Flame Top is, at just ~$199, an incredible bargain for a solid top acoustic guitar. Thanks to its quality of tone and ease of play, the WD10S Flame Top’s qualities make it one of the best acoustic guitars for beginners – especially adult beginners.

Not only does the WD10S Flame Top have a solid Alaskan Sitka spruce top, but it comes with mahogany back and sides giving the Flame Top a richness of tone that is unequaled in its price range and an aesthetic simplicity that is highly appealing.

Built on a dreadnought body, the WD10S Flame Top can be a bit much to manage, especially for younger and smaller guitarists. Yet, if you can manage the reach, it has a great volume that can be heard even in noisy settings.

On the downside, the Flame Top can tend towards a boxiness of tone if subjected to too much aggressive strumming or picking. But for medium pick work, strumming and finger-style playing, this is an excellent choice for those looking for a good quality acoustic guitar at an affordable price.

Good move, Washburn! Solid wood tops make ALL the difference. Laminate tops simply cannot compare. At this price, such an axe would make an IDEAL 2nd or 'campfire' guitar or a GREAT adult 'beginner'. I say 'adult' because a full-size dread is a bit much for a kid to handle. I would recommend replacing the factory strings with custom light (for a beginner) or medium gauge coated strings like Namoweb Elixirs. This would definitely improve the guitar's tone considerably. These strings are NOT cheap, but they last a lot longer than uncoated ones.
