Dean Guitar: Bret Michaels
by Guitar Guru
”A Dreadnought with Real Flare”
The Dean Bret Michaels Acoustic Guitar is one for the record books. The flaming graphics of this model are about as pink as flames could ever get, and will look awesome whether you are playing on stage or have it hung on your living room wall.
This full sized dreadnought has a laminate spruce top and laminate mahogany body; making it not the best choice for beginning guitarists. While there are guitar reviews that may disagree, having a solid top guitar gives the instrument a better overall tone and resonance, and the better the tone of the guitar, the better the chance is that the player will want to continue to learn to play.
The sheer size and construction of the dreadnought will carry this baby’s tone for a considerable distance. However, you are not going to get the quality of tone out of it that you would from a solid top model. You are also going to have to retune your guitar fairly often as it tends to lose its pitch quite easily.
You might be better off just buying this guitar for the pure punkish look of it. In fact there are two design options. The Jorja Raine
model (pictured here) has a pink flame top, and The Player
model has a striking yellow and red flame design. Either model would be a great addition for any collector who is looking to spice up their wall of fame, and you really can’t go wrong with the price.
At just ~$249 the Bret Michaels does have affordability going for it. But if you want a better sounding guitar with a solid top that actually costs less, you can find yourself an Ibanez V200S
which has a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Of course if you’d rather not hang it on your wall, you can keep your Dean Bret Michaels Guitar in a
Musician's Gear Deluxe Dreadnought Case
in order to protect your investment.
