Epiphone Acoustic Guitar: Limited Edition Hummingbird

by Guitar Guru
(play-acoustic-guitar.com)

”Own a Small Slice of History with Small Investment”

Owning the Epiphone Limited Edition Hummingbird Artist Acoustic Guitar is like owning a little slice of history. This model is a great acoustic guitar even though it is an economy version of the legendary Gibson Hummingbird that was introduced in the 1960’s. The Hummingbird has been a favorite of bluegrass and country players ever since it first appeared on the market.

Built on a dreadnought body, the Epiphone Hummingbird has many excellent characteristics; specifically its solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides that give it a richly warm tone that is just slightly woody and natural sounding. The deep body and wide shoulders of the Hummingbird give it great volume and projection, though the depth and breadth of the body can be a bit of a hard reach for more slightly built players. The rosewood fingerboard is specifically designed for pick style playing and will stand up to even aggressive flatpicking.

While the Epiphone Hummingbird tends not to keep itself in tune as long as the Gibson model, it is definitely an affordable alternative to the much pricier Gibson model. And re-tuning is a small price to pay for the savings in price, just ~$249. With the same style of hummingbird inlays on the pickguard as the Gibson model and this Artist Acoustic edition is just as flashy as any that was played by the aspiring and performing artists of the 1960’s.

'Birds....

This axe costs <$300. A Gibson Hummingbird retails well over 10 times that amount, but the "Gibby" stays in tune better???? Ooooookaaaay....
