Takamine Guitars: Jasmine S33 Dreadnought

by Guitar Guru
(play-acoustic-guitar.com)

“Attractive Beginner Guitar”

Priced at less than $200, the Takamine Jasmine S33 is a good value-priced, full-sized traditional acoustic guitar with a dreadnought body shape. While geared for beginner guitar players, the S33 has an array of features to recommend it to both beginner and experienced guitarists at a price that will not break even the most budget-conscious musician’s bank.

From its laminate spruce top to its lacewood back and sides, the S33 is a joy to look at. Dot inlays on its rosewood fretboard, the black pick-guard, and the gloss finish (which helps to enhance its resonance) add to the instrument’s beauty. More advanced players may prefer to lower the action and replace the strings to achieve the best sound the S33 has to offer.

The Jasmine S33 is an acoustic guitar with a tone that belies its price and is made with the same attention to quality workmanship that Takamine has become famous for.

Skip the Laminate Top Guitar
by: Elston Graubart

If Mr. & Mrs. General Public know the most basic of guitar facts, they will make more informed and sensible decisions. Even those with cardboard ears will know the difference in sound between wood and laminate.

If you're going to spend money on a guitar, there's no point in buying a laminate unless you specifically want a party axe. A beginner will stick with it if the guitar rings....and will quickly lose interest if it sounds bad.

Why spend nearly $200 on a laminate if you can get a wood top for the same or less??? Entry level solid tops are better sounding than the best laminates, cost less, and the difference can be put toward the cost of a hard-shell case...... And wood tops sound better as they age. Laminates don't.

It's really simple. These guitars sell because of the 'eyewash' extras and shiny finishes. And because people, generally, are not well informed. Unfortunately, info coming from knowledgeable sales staff often sounds like a 'spiel' or ploy to separate the buyer from his cash. Well, I ain't sellin' nothin' to nobody nohow an' thems the facts!!!
