When it comes to traveling by air with your guitar, there is no getting around the fact that the Voyage-Air Guitar Songwriter VAD-04 Travel Acoustic Guitar is the most convenient travel guitar available today.

Instead of having to deal with tiny guitars whose sound is compromised by their diminutive nature, the VAD-04 is designed to be a full-sized dreadnought guitar – with a twist; it folds in half. By halving the size of the guitar the VAD-04 fits into its convenient backpack-style carrying case which can fit into the overhead luggage compartment of any commercial airline. This alleviates so many headaches associated with traveling by air with your guitar that it would be difficult to list them all here.

To top off the convenience of a foldable acoustic
guitar, the VAD-04 also comes with a select solid spruce top, which means that for a travel guitar, you are going to get a very good tone, not to mention the ability of your guitar to stay in tune even between sessions. Combine the solid top with the mahogany body, and you get a flavor that you won’t find matched in other travel guitars, though of course there are those who would say that the VAD-04’s foldable nature is also its downfall.

While it truly is convenient, and while the VAD-04 has the best tone of many other travel guitars in its range, there is a bad side to its collapsibility. After folding and unfolding multiple times, the VAD-04 (and even other Voyage-Air models) tends to develop a hitch in the neck which can lead to playing problems if it is not attended to. In order to avoid any issues with the neck you may need to adjust the bolt manually (not just to snap the neck into place, but to tighten the bolt itself) in order to keep it from interfering with your ability to play smoothly.
