Guild Guitar: GAD-50PCE

by Guitar Guru
(play-acoustic-guitar.com)

”An Exotic Tone Wood Twist”

The Guild GAD-50PCE Acoustic Guitar is a classy cutaway with a tone wood twist that will tickle your musical fancy.

Crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top to give it the very best in tonal resonance, the GAD-50PCE sports an African padauk back and sides. To those who are unfamiliar with Padauk, there is only this to say. African Padauk is not only a beautiful wood; one that darkens over time from a rich orange to a dark red, it is also one of the most resonant tonewoods on the planet.

The GAD-50PCE uses this exotic tribute to resonance to create a guitar whose notes ring out as if you have struck a gong; or maybe a Tibetan singing bow. The clarity of this guitar’s tone will make every other guitar sound muted and fuzzy by comparison and ensure that you realize that you are holding a great acoustic guitar.

The beauty and resonance of the wood used for this guitar is one of the reasons that the GAD-50PCE costs a bit more than other Guild solid wood guitars. At ~$999 it is not a cheap guitar. But guitar reviews will agree that it is definitely worth the money. It even comes with a deluxe hardshell case so that you can protect your investment.

For the price you would think that you are getting some fabulous aesthetically grand guitar. And you are – if you appreciate the subtle complexities of natural wood grains. The GAD-50PCE is not a fancy guitar to look at, but its cutaway ensures that it is a comfortable guitar to play, though its dreadnought body can be a bit cumbersome for more slightly built players.

It is not every day that you can get a solid wood guitar of this quality and have it made of such a unique wood that it will lend your instrument a sound all of its own, but with the GAD-50PCE, that is exactly what you will get.

Padauk NEW
by: Graham

Never known padauk to be used for a guitar, but it IS mighty pretty. Guild has a good reputation. So far, so good. Reviewers agree that this axe sounds good. Ok. At under $1000, this could be a bargain. Guild has farmed out lots of their stuff to the Pacific Rim to cut back on costs, but this sometimes manifests itself in a build quality which does NOT measure up to that of North American made instruments. Let the buyer beware.
