Blueridge Guitars: BG60 Slope Shoulder

by Guitar Guru

”The Guitar to Reach for When You Need to be Heard”

There is something about a slope shouldered guitar, and the Blueridge BG60 Contemporary Series Slope Shoulder Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar lives up to the slope shouldered legend with projection and volume that will blow you out of the water.

While the standard dreadnought shape has become the most popular type of dreadnought, there is definitely a time and a place for a slope-shouldered guitar, especially this one. With a wider lower bout and more rounded upper bout when compared to a standard dreadnought, the BG60 shouldn’t be able to compete with the broader shouldered traditionally styled dreadnoughts. But it does. In fact, it wins hands down for not only does it have the volume, projection and resonance that you have come to expect from a dreadnought, it also has that woody vintage guitar tone that says now this is a real guitar.

Crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides, the BG60 is as beautiful to look at as it is to play, though for those with smaller hands it may be a difficult guitar to handle. But if you can manage the reach, it is definitely worth playing for it will project your playing to the very back of any hall and let you be heard over any crowd.

In fact, the BG60 has such a large and well-rounded tone that you are going to be hard pressed to find a comparable guitar, especially with a sticker price of ~$671. If you want comparable sound you’re going to have to trade up to the
Yamaha L Series LJ16 Jumbo Acoustic Guitar with Case
for $70 more. While not quite as well made as the Blueridge, the Yamaha does have a bigger sound, though you don’t get the slope-shouldered woodiness that the BG60 brings to the table. The Yamaha also comes with a hardshell guitar case, whereas with the BG60 you’ll have to buy your own (preferably the
Silver Creek Vintage Dreadnought Archtop Case
– which will fit this guitar very well indeed).

So if slope shouldered awesomeness if what you want from your guitar, the Blueridge BG60 Contemporary Series Slope Shouldered acoustic guitar may very well be the choice for you.

At this price-point, there are far superior, North American made, ALL SOLID WOOD instruments available. Look at Seagull's SWS range of guitars. Nuff said!
