Mansfield Thinline Telecaster NEW
by: RobM

I own a Mansfield thinline telecaster. Ive done the research and it is a copy of a 1969 fender thinline. And yes, if you look in the Ibanez catalogs of old, it even has the same model number as the Mansfield catalog. No doubt. Its an Ibanez. I was lucky. Found it in a pawn shop. They didnt know what it was but apon seeing the MADE IN JAPAN backplate, I knew. After offering $300, I walked out with a vintage Ibanez, original case, and an unused very early 70's strap that has MADE IN JAPAN stamped on it. Holy crap!! :)

Mansfield Acoustic Guitars NEW
by: Anonymous

Maybe some 70's era Mansfields were of highest quality, but many more were of GOOD quality, like the iconic Yamaha FG-180, which was decent quality, but all laminate. and really of average construction quality. Many sounded great, but could not realistically be compared to a comparable Martin D-18, which they were a copy of. If you look in many of the Mansfield (Ibanez) soundholes, you will see excessive glue evidence, which isn't a sign of high craftsmanship.

Mansfield FJ - 4 NEW
by: GP

Trying to get more info too. I picked up the FJ - 4 model with zero fret made of quality woods but also some cheap stuff plastic nut and saddle, plastic truss cover. repairing lifted bridge so dont know how it sounds but seems promising. i read the zero fret was one attribute of 70's models. face of head stock is painted black but it is transparent so maybe when new looked cool it is a medium maybe O size guitar. anyone have more info on this one?

mansfield DW 2 guitar NEW
by: Anonymous

I have a Mansfield acoustic guitar . its a copy of the martin D 18 I've been told. I've been looking around in music stores and it sure looks like a martin. it also sounds great. I just had some work done on it at a repair shop to realign the bridge and replace some frets and some ajustments and the repair guy told me to hang on to it because its a very good guitar.i've had it since 1971.my wife gave it to me for xmas that year she bought it new for around 200 dollars and its still in good shape and sounds great after all the years that I've used it

Mansfield and Ibanez NEW
by: Anonymous

My grandfather and another family member each bought a guitar back in the mid 1970's. One purchased an Ibanez guitar and the other a Mansfield and I now am the owner of both guitars. These two guitars look exactly identical, same color, fret board, inlays, pick guard, everything. The only difference is that one has Ibanez written on it and the other has Mansfield so yes they were made by the same people at the time and both guitars sound almost exactly the same. Hope this answers your question :)

Story of Mansfield Guitars NEW
by: Guitar Guru

I have limited information on Mansfield Guitars. My understanding is that Mansfield Guitars produced in the 1970s were actually made by Hoshino Gakki (Japan), the Ibanez makers. And, that the guitars made during this era are high quality - even collector items.

I encourage others to comment to help answer this question!
