”A Big Guitar That Will Make Sure You Get Heard”

The Martin J-40 Jumbo Dreadnought is a surefire way to make sure that your playing will be heard no matter what the circumstances.

With a Grand Auditorium body profile and a dreadnought body depth, the J-40 is no shrinking violet. In fact, its hugeness may make it difficult to handle for younger or smaller-sized players. But the sound it produces has a deep, rounded tone whose volume can compete with even a banjo for loudness, meaning that you will never have to put up with your playing fading into the background ever again.

In fact, some may find it too loud and have difficulty toning its volume down, especially if they are looking to play the J-40 as vocal accompaniment or in an attempt to blend with other instruments.

Made with solid rosewood back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top, the J-40 seems was constructed for fingerstyle playing. And while it can adapt itself fairly well to heavy picking and strumming due mainly to its volume, too aggressive of strumming tends to give this big baby a rather boxy sound that can detract from its appeal.

At $3,499 (including its deluxe Martin hardshell case) the J-40 is no cheap acoustic guitar. But for the serious musician, it can be an excellent addition for those instances when you just have to be heard.

Incredible: The J40 blows them all away NEW
by: marindavid

Like many Martin players, I have put my faith in my HD28 for years... I figured that the D45 might be better - but only cosmetically. Then... I picked up the J40. Light, resonant, easy to play and with a tone that I believe actually surpasses both the 28 and 45.
Tradition and the tried-and-true experience of the historically proven models matter - but this model (first introduced in 19085) with its modified Jumbo shape, beautiful 40 ornamentation and blow-me-away resonance, richness and sustain bedats them all. The new kid on the block is here... a new model surpasses history.

Add to my Martin J40 guitar review NEW
by: Robert D. Hardison

After reading my review after sending, my mind was on the J45, but my guitar is a J40 Martin. My comments that I have a J45 should be changed to J40. I do not have a Martin J45, but I do have a Martin J40.

About my J40 Martin Guitar. NEW
by: Robert D. Hardison

I have always wanted a J40 Martin as it was somewhat cheaper than a Martin D45 which I really wanted, but the price difference is why I chose a J40 which I thought would be the same sound as a J45 as I had heard before. It was really the same sound, as I heard before of the D45 and the D28. I could hear no difference. I am really pleased with my J45 and now rate it as my best guitar of the 21 guitars that I have now and I have a few very expensive ones. I like this J45 which I ordered with the Fishman electronics as I can use it as my lead guitar, including my instrumentals as a fingerstyle picker (Chet and Merle). I really love this guitar and I will never part with it. It is the loudest non amplified guitar that I have ever heard.
