This is, hands-down, the absolute BEST beginner acoustic guitar on the market! While costing a bit more than other beginner models, this guitar will last you a long time. In fact, its sound gets better over time. The warm sound quality of the solid cedar top, combined with a long sustain, is just phenominal! Handmade in Quebec, the craftsmanship is just superb - the solid cedar top looks (and smells!) terrific. Put some Nanoweb Elixir strings on it, and you may find it rivals the sound of a Martin or Taylor at 1/4 the price.

Notably, the wide nut design makes it easy to fingerpick, easy for large hands to chord, and easy for beginners to learn. Unlike many cheap beginner guitars, the Seagull S6 stays in tune. Note that the action is a bit high, so you may need to adjust it.

You can get better quality instruments if you spend 3x more money. But no other instrument remotely near this price point compares to the Seagull S6 in sound and quality.

I have a Seagull M6 with a spruce top that I bought new in 2001 for around $325 to $350 (I forget the exact price). It is essentially the same instrument as the S6 being discussed here, only the top is different. Although I still don't play all that well, I love this guitar. Very beginner friendly in set up and design and with a wonderful, bright tone.
My brother (a better and more serious player than I) was so impressed with it, he went out and bought one. Except he got the Cedar-topped S6 and did not like it as well as mine. So, then he went out and dropped like $1700 on a Taylor cutaway with a spruce top. But he still says my M6 sounds just as good as his high dollar Taylor.

I was lucky.. My M6 will probably be the only new guitar I'll ever buy and I was lucky enough to get a really fine instrument, especia;;y for the price.

I have owned one of these fantastic guitars since 2001 for the money it is hands down the best guitar for beginners by a mile that is not to say a professional musician would not rate it very highly as they do !! it has a very warm mellow tone with punchy mids and lows I own some excellent luthiers hand made guitars that cost me in some cases £4000 and they are good ,great even but I always return and pick up my Seagul S6 on an almost daily basis ..
buy one look after it , it will last you many many years of great sounding playing I honestly believe no matter how good you are or become as a guitarist you will never outgrow the Seagul S6

I played an old S6 model for 8 years, and it took an incredible beating with constant performing. Finally I had to purchase a newer Seagull and I chose the smaller S6 folk model. The cedar top produces the signature Seagull sound, and after 3 years the harmonics are really coming out. For the price, you can't get a better quality guitar. I'm looking at moving up to the performer series with the cedar top...
