”Gem of a Guitar at a Jewel of a Price”

The Washburn WD 35S Solid Sitka Spruce Top Acoustic Dreadnought is a real gem of a guitar. Perhaps one of the best acoustic guitars for beginners and more advanced players alike; the WD35S not only has a crisp, clean tone, it is also surprisingly affordable for a guitar of this quality.

Just ~$399, the WD 35S is crafted with a solid Alaskan Sitka spruce top as well as Tamo ash back and sides giving it not only clarity of tone that rings like a bell, but also a depth and projection that one would expect from a more expensive guitar.

Built on a Dreadnought body, the WD35S has the broad shoulders and deep body that are the signature characteristics of the ever popular dreadnought style guitar and which combine with the solid top and quarter sawn scalloped bracing to produce a depth of tone and a volume that belie its affordable price tag.

On the downside, the WD35S is a big guitar, and can be difficult to handle for the more slightly built or younger players. It also tends to lose its tuning fairly easily if subjected to aggressive picking and strumming. But for finger style playing or regular pick style playing it will hold up well and give you years worth of service.

You can compare the size, style, sound and volume of the WD35S to the Taylor 210G which has the same body style and solid Sitka spruce top only with rosewood back and sides but which costs a good bit more at $749 (including gig bag). The Taylor’s tone is a bit warmer than the Washburn, but that may very well be due to using rosewood instead of ash.

Overall the Washburn WD35S Solid Sitka Spruce Acoustic Dreadnought is an incredible value for a guitar of this quality and will not disappoint!

pretty good

This is pretty good value. At this price-point, however, there are quite a few from which to choose. Solid top guitars are becoming very affordable due to their being built in China. Don't let the Washburn name fool you. This is not an American made guitar. Want something made over HERE? Seagull S6 is a winner. Real Canadian quality for about the same price.
