Soprano sized ukuleles like the Oscar Schmidt OU13 Ukulele have a reputation for being rather sporty and fun, and the OU13 is no different.

The smallest of the ukulele bodies, a soprano sized ukulele is small enough to fit into a backpack with room leftover. This makes it easy to take your soprano ukulele anywhere you need to go. No matter if you are bicycling to the beach for a barbeque or flying out on a business trip, you can take your OU13 with you.

Made with a spruce top and rosewood back and sides, this little number has a natural gloss finish that makes it decidedly appealing and the abalone rosette inlays give it a classy feel that you don’t get from many other instruments in its price range.

One decided downside to the OU13 is that the tuners are far heavier than they should be. This makes the OU13 rather top heavy. In fact, the entire instrument feels rather thick and heavy; heavier than a soprano ukulele should be. Another drawback is the quality of the strings. The strings that come with this particular model tend to be a bit flimsy and give the OU13 a rather mushy tone that can be corrected by choosing a better quality of string. That said, the overall tone of the OU13 is not as high of quality as you might expect. One of the best things about the OU13, however, is the price.

At just ~$189 the OU13 is quite the affordable ukulele model. Of course if you want a better overall quality instrument you might want to go with the solid top (all solid wood body) Silver Creek All Solid Soprano Ukulele which only costs ~$149. Mind you the Silver Creek is not as classy and glossy looking as the OU13, but when it comes to tone it has the Oscar Schmidt beat.
